Fourth Rebirth- [Video]

Hello.

[Yuca smiles cheerfully. In the background, a lot of rubble could be seen, marking him as being further out, near the fence, but he didn't seem very perturbed.]

I was thinking of starting a garden- I know there's a few out here already, and I'm already looking for bulbs and whatnot, just to put in a safe place before I start. Al's already been kind enough to offer up several white flowers, so I thi-

[His gaze travels somewhere beyond the PCD, and his voice is slowing down, slightly.] -nk, that.... having- flowers, wouuuuld be....

[Yuca's eyes glaze over, still set on a far off point. His arm holding the PCD drops to his side, and the device falls to the ground at an odd angle, recording his face crookedly, just... staring straight ahead. He's 'looking' at the fence itself and the wastelands that are behind it, completely frozen, as if time itself had stopped.

Something moves nearby him, but he doesn't seem to notice. He doesn't move, doesn't blink. Just stands still and stares at nothing until the PCD times out.]

[[ooc: First bout of one of Yuca's 'spells'. He'll be like this for hours unless something eats him. Replies will be timeskipped by several hours, if of course, he's not dead. If you want to just happen across him, offline posts are fine, but depending on when your character gets to him, he'll be unresponsive <3]]

Do you think Rain would strike someone unprovoked?

[That's good enough for him- Yuca could care less about trust, as long as people loved him to where they didn't notice he was manipulating them. Not that he had any particular use for Al yet, but he was sure that he'd probably need the alchemist someday.]

No, but it's never a good thing to lose your temper around someone you care about, and sometimes... well, people do things they regret.

[Quite possible. A good deal of people have trusted someone simply because Al did, but it's not absolute. He's been wrong.]

He wants me to leave him alone, but I can't, Al.

[Yuca lets the slightest bit of desperation hint into his tone. There he goes.]

He's the only person who's going to be around as long as I am. I need that.

I won't force him to be around you or guilt him into it, Yuca... he has to forgive you on his own... but I will help how I can.

I doubt he'd abandon you. He came to you, just now, didn't he?

I know that- I want to apologize, but it's... I'm not used to saying that sort of thing.

[Yuca shakes his head, sadly.]

He... he did, but then he left. He doesn't like the idea of me dying, I think. It made him angry.

[Al puts his chin in his hands, considering Yuca seriously.]

I think the thought of you dying makes him upset, but I think it's more your attitude towards dying that hurts him. Seeing someone you love not care about themselves or value their own life... it hurts. It hurts badly.

If you were needling him about that... I can see why he'd get angry and hurt.

Yuca... sometimes you do need to humble yourself a little and admit when you're wrong, or sorry for hurting someone. It helps to be sincere.

I don't see why he doesn't understand how worthless this life is.

[Yuca looks at the screen with a hopeless sigh.]

I could take that sharp rock over there and smash it into my throat and it wouldn't matter. I'd be back in a heartbeat, existing again. Rain only has one life, but each passing year is the same for him as each passing life is to be. Inconsequential. There's always another one.

[The next words are soft, barely whispered against the screen. Yuca is trying to manipulate Al, yes, but he's surprised at the truth of them.] Sometimes, I can't help hurting him, Alphonse.

[Alphonse shakes his head. There's pain in his eyes, worry. At the last sentence, he abruptly closes his eyes, taking a shaky breath.]

You know that's wrong, don't you? Don't you feel any regret when you hurt him?

Of course. [He bites his lip and shakes his head.] But- it's been six hundred years, and he still doesn't understand. He needs to be hurt so he can understand me.

[The steely grey in Al's eyes seem more pronounced, somehow. His voice is utterly flat.]

If six hundred years of life, love, and losing people hasn't made Rain understand you, hurting him won't do it, Yuca.

[His voice positively trembles now.]

I know that... I just don't know how to say I'm sorry. Not to him.

At this rate, you're going to have to learn, Yuca... or he will leave.

I just wanted a friend, Al.

[He buries his face in his hands.]

I know, Yuca... I know. I understand.

But this isn't the way to treat someone you care about. The reason you love Rain is because he is the way he is, right? If he saw the world the same way you do, he would be a very different person... and he wouldn't be Rain anymore, would he?

I... I think I understand now.

[He swallows hard and pulls his hands back. Al fell for it perfectly.]

I'm going to give him some space- at least, after Kurotsuchi is done with him. And then I'll try to just talk to him about it, instead of repeating this painful cycle.

[A weak smile.]

I'll tell him that I need him, too.

[He was... somehow expecting that to be harder. Yuca's pretty stubborn.]

... don't try to guilt him, Yuca. Or hurt him. That's not the way to make someone care about you.

[Oh, but it seemed to work perfectly well on you.]

..I know. I'm going to try to... well, Rain is an immortal now, like me. The least I could do is try to treat him like an equal.

[Pffft~]

Treat him as an equal because he has a heart, Yuca, and a soul.

Two hearts, actually. Or at least, he did.

[But still, he nods, understanding what Al was trying to say.]

[Waitwhat.]

... huh?

[A soft laugh, more amused at Al's confusion than the actual subject matter.]

I had to give him a backup.

That's messed up, Yuca.

[Yes, he actually looks so innocent, awww.]

He told me that one of his hearts had been ripped out. If that was the only one, then he would be dead. I saved his life again by doing that.

No, no... I understand the practicality of it perfectly, but...

It's still... very messed up.
