It feels so empty in this place, now.

Though, I understand some new people have arrived. Hello!

[Silence. It's almost awkward.]

...I don't know how much longer this can go on. [...he's really not doing so well on the whole 'inconspicuous' part anymore, is he? Cough, cough, he tries to remedy that, at least a little.] Maybe I should take up a hobby. Any recommendations?

I understand that you've gotten a new addition to your ranks? Congratulations. Perhaps we could have a discussion at some point or another- I'm still highly curious as to what, exactly, you are.

No. I just... know that you don't talk to a lot of people other than me and Rain, and I can't think of anyone else who knows you're having trouble focusing, since you mentioned it...

I just thought it might be less stress for you.

[A soft tapping noise.]

You don't need to see me, or anything, it would just make a good excuse.

[There's a small pause, as he considers this.]

...stress isn't a new concept. I'm able to handle my own problems- if you want to keep me company, by all means, feel free, but don't assume that I'm unable to function without someone holding my hand.

[... shoot. He was lying in the first place, and now it's pissing him off.]

No, I kind of just wanted to see you.

[It's short, chaste. I don't have anything better to do, lying there in the subtext.]

[It's a soft breath, a bit brighter than he feels, cheerful.]

I'll be annoying if I see you now. I've been worried about you being upset with me over dying, and I'll probably push for contact. It wouldn't make for a relaxing visit.

Oh.

[That's right. Alphonse has died, recently. The memories hit him suddenly, and he remembers, in almost lurid detail. Everything, all at once-

-the PCD times out.]

[-clicking back on, about five or so minutes after it turned off automatically.]

Whatever you like. I... haven't been doing anything recently, anyway.

Oh, Yuca.

[It's almost like he's talking to himself, and he stays on the line the entire time, but all it picks up is his soft, even breathing.]

But I'm going to be clingy and annoying, probably.

If you don't want to, don't.

[Because that sort of seems to be the way Al's going? Maybe? Yuca can't quite read him at the moment, not now, when he can't remember when this Alphonse is from.]

[A shift, and then he turns on the feed. Al's hair is down, ready for bed, but even through his hair, in the candlelight there is a dull sheen of the recently healed cuts on his forehead, marred only by the scar of the old bullethole above his eyebrow, the one he's always had. The marks will disappear, soon. He takes a slow breath, setting his chin behind his folded arms. He's sitting at his desk, bright grey-gold eyes watching the PCD, though there's nothing to watch.]

... I'm asking whether you want to deal with that or not.

[Yuca stares levelly toward the screen, his breathing slow and even, just watching for a moment as the emotions flickered across Al's face.

This Al had died in the past, yes. He had death waiting for him, and he gave Yuca a scarf, and his skin was warm when Yuca brushed fingertips against it during that sunny picnic all those months ago.]

I don't care, Alphonse. I don't. Come near me, talk to me, be with me, or don't. Either way, the sun still sets and another day still passes.

[Al gives a slow nod, a tiny smile that's not so much an expression as a confirmation, like the nod.]

That's an honest answer.

[It seems a strange way to reply to something like that, but despite how tired Al suddenly looks, it also seems like some sort of tension has gone.]

The library is always open, here. Come over whenever you like. Ms. Unohana's asked me to take it easy for a bit, so I should be around.

[He's quiet for another long moment, and it might just be that he's lost it again, but his eyes focus suddenly on Alphonse's face, and he gives a wry smile.]

How are you feeling? You still look rather injured...

[A headshake, followed by a little shrug.]

Woozy, a little lightheaded here and there, but overall not so bad. I feel like I'm coming off a bad flu. Ms. Unohana asked me to take it easy for a few days, and Brother's making sure I do.

It's your own fault, you know.

[A laugh, light, and this time real.]

Most trouble is... I won't say I don't deserve this.

Then we're of the same view.

[A little pause.]

I'll drop by later today.

[A nod, sobering now.]

Do you like chicken soup?

As much as anything else, I suppose.

Okay. If you'll be here for a while, I might as well feed you.

I'll see you when you come?
